Every AI agent eventually hits the same wall: a sign-in page. 1Password’s answer, launched on Thursday, October 22, is to type the password in for the agent so the agent never sees it. 1Password for Agents is built to work with Meta’s Muse, Anthropic’s Claude Duet, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work and dots, SpaceXSI’s Grok Bot and Town’s Townie, and it costs nothing extra for people who already pay for 1Password.
The timing is pointed. Earlier on Thursday, big US banks said AI agents were turning up inside customer accounts, mostly because people had handed an agent their own username and password. That is the shortcut 1Password wants to replace.
How 1Password for Agents works
When an agent reaches a sign-in form, the agent app asks 1Password for the login it needs. The agent first proves who it is with what 1Password calls “a unique digital key”. You then see which login it wants and why, and approve or refuse on your own device, which confirms the permission came from you. 1Password fills the password, and any one-time code, straight into the website instead of passing it to the agent, and the agent carries on with the task.
The company’s blog post says an agent can use only the logins you approve, not anything else in your vault, and you can disconnect an integration at any time. 1Password adds one caveat: “The safeguards and controls vary by integration.”
Agents are starting to do real work on our behalf. The old model where you hand over a credential and hope for the best doesn’t work.

Which AI agents work with 1Password
Only two are switching it on straight away. 1Password lists when each integration arrives:
- Muse, from Meta: rolling out over the coming days on all platforms. Meta had promised 1Password support when Muse launched in September.
- Grok Bot, from SpaceXSI: rolling out over the coming days on all platforms. It follows Grok Bot getting its own email address to sign up for services on your behalf.
- Claude Duet, from Anthropic: coming soon.
- ChatGPT Work and dots, from OpenAI: coming soon.
- Townie, from Town: web and iOS, coming soon.
Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, Instinct, KERNEL, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo and Wajo are also building integrations.
“An agent has to earn its place there”
Anthropic launched Claude Duet on Wednesday, saying the app never directly sees your passwords. Its chief product officer explained where 1Password fits:
Most of the work people want help with lives inside their accounts, and we know an agent has to earn its place there. Claude Duet asks before it signs in anywhere, and soon 1Password will complete the sign-in with the passwords people have already set up, so they don’t have to start over.
Ami Vora, Chief Product Officer, Anthropic
“I’ve been using 1Password since 2007 and I’m so happy to have it integrated directly into Muse,” said Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs. SpaceXSI’s Tido Carriero said Grok Bot can now sign in “without asking people to share or paste their passwords”.
Price and where it works
1Password for Agents is included at no extra cost with 1Password Individual and Family plans whose accounts are on 1Password.com, which serves users worldwide. Accounts hosted on 1Password.eu or 1Password.ca, the company’s European and Canadian data regions, aren’t supported yet. For businesses, 1Password points instead to its Unified Access platform for workplace AI assistants.
The agents set their own limits. Muse isn’t available in the UK or EU yet, dots on ChatGPT Pro isn’t out in the UK, EU or Switzerland, and Claude Duet is limited to US Pro and Max subscribers through a waitlist. For now, the readers who can use it are mostly in the US and Canada.
1Password passes $500 million in revenue
On the same day, 1Password said it had passed $500 million in annual recurring revenue, up from the $400 million it reported in November 2025. It credits its developer and AI security tools, whose monthly active “non-human identity” users (agents and software rather than people) grew 500% in a year. Chief executive David Faugno said “the defining challenge is not simply to make agents more capable, but to give them a trusted way to act on our behalf”.
Why it matters
Muse, Duet, dots and Grok Bot are all built to act inside your accounts, and the banks have shown what happens when people hand over passwords to let them. A shared sign-in layer that keeps the password away from the AI model is a sensible fix, but most of these integrations haven’t shipped yet, and 1Password itself says the protections differ from one agent to the next.
