Apple’s new AI-powered Siri is no longer English-only. With the 27.2 updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro released on Monday, Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, opening it up to hundreds of millions of people who couldn’t use it at launch last month.

The update also teaches Siri AI to remember earlier conversations and to dig through more of your personal data for answers. It is still labelled a beta.

Which languages, and what comes next

Until now, Siri AI needed both your device and Siri language set to English. From iOS 27.2 the list is English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, and Apple says Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese will follow “by the end of the year”.

That still leaves gaps. Apple Intelligence’s other features already work in German, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and simplified Chinese, but Apple has given no date for Siri AI in any of them. Apple’s support page on how to get Siri AI still listed English only on Monday evening, so it isn’t yet clear which regional versions of the new languages, such as Canadian French or Brazilian Portuguese, are covered.

Where you can use it

The countries that gain most are outside Europe: Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico and the rest of Latin America, French-speaking Canada, and Spanish speakers in the US. The English-speaking markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India and New Zealand, already had it.

Europe is the big exception. Apple’s release notes say Siri AI is “not available in the EU or mainland China”, and its announcement adds that it remains unavailable in the EU on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, only reaching the Mac and Apple Vision Pro there. So most people in France, Spain, Portugal and Belgium, where three of the new languages are spoken, still can’t use it on their phones. Apple says it “is working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.” Siri AI also isn’t available to anyone under 13.

You need an Apple Intelligence device: an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16 or later, iPhone Air or iPhone Duo, an iPad or Mac with M1 or later, Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Vision Pro. New users still join a waitlist before it downloads.

What else is new for Siri AI

Apple’s iOS 27.2 release notes list four other Siri changes:

  • Memory: Siri AI can recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, “like the restaurants it recommended last week”.
  • More personal context: it can now draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and Safari history and Reading List.
  • Excluded Apps: one setting to choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access.
  • Text selection: you can select and copy just part of a Siri answer.

Elsewhere, Messages gets suggestions that offer to add a dinner plan to Calendar or Reminders, and Photos and Image Playground add support for SynthID, the Google DeepMind watermark that flags images made or edited with generative AI (DeepMind has also adapted it to mark AI-designed DNA).

The fine print hasn’t changed. Siri AI, Apple’s photo editing tools, Image Playground and its AFM 3 Cloud models in Shortcuts all have daily usage limits, and Apple repeats that expanded access “will be available for a fee in the future”, as it said when it unveiled its HomeView smart display.

How to get it

Install the update from Settings, General, Software Update. Then set your iPhone and Siri to the same supported language, go to Settings, Siri and tap Try Siri AI (Beta). If you were already using Siri AI in English, Apple says it keeps working when you travel.

Why it matters

Siri AI arrived late and in English only, part of why we argued a smarter Siri won’t save Apple in the AI race. With six languages it now reaches Japan, South Korea and Latin America, but Europe’s iPhone owners are still waiting on a deal with Brussels.
