The Siri AI waitlist on iOS 27 can take anything from a few minutes to several days, and once you’re through, Siri AI still has to download before you can use it. Apple doesn’t give a waitlist time, but most people report getting in within a few hours to two days. Here’s how the Siri AI waitlist works, how to join it, and what to do if you’re stuck on “Joined waitlist.”
How long is the Siri AI waitlist?
There’s no fixed Siri AI waitlist time. Apple is letting people in gradually, much like it did with Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1, and its support page only says “wait times can vary.”
What people report, according to BGR’s roundup of Reddit and Apple forum posts:
- Minutes: some people get in almost straight away.
- A few hours to 48 hours: the most common experience.
- A week or more: one user on Apple’s community forums waited six days, and some report longer.
Siri AI arrived with iOS 27 on September 14, so there’s still a queue from launch. Waits should get shorter as Apple lets more people in.
How long does Siri AI take to download and set up?
When you’re off the waitlist, Siri AI downloads automatically. How long that takes depends on your connection, so keep your iPhone on Wi-Fi and plugged in. If you see an “Optimizing Search and Siri” message, your iPhone is indexing its content to get Siri AI ready. Apple doesn’t say how long that takes, and it’s best left to finish on its own.
How to join the Siri AI waitlist
- Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS 27 (Settings, General, Software Update).
- Open Settings and tap Siri. If Siri is off, turn it on first.
- Tap Try Siri AI (Beta).
- Pick a voice, finish the voice setup and review the privacy settings.
- Join the waitlist. Apple will send you a notification when Siri AI is ready.
Siri AI stuck on “Joined waitlist”? What to check
Most of the time, being stuck just means Apple hasn’t reached you yet. But it’s worth checking these, because any of them can hold you up:
- Install any iOS 27 updates. Fixes for Siri and Apple Intelligence come through software updates.
- Check your languages. Your iPhone language and Siri language must both be set to a supported language (English for now) and must match.
- Free up storage. Siri AI needs space on your iPhone to download.
- Stay on Wi-Fi and power if you’ve been let in but it’s still downloading.
- Don’t leave and rejoin. It won’t speed things up, The Apple Post notes, and could lose your place.
Can you bypass the Siri AI waitlist?
No. There’s no official way to skip or speed up the Siri AI waitlist, and Apple Support can’t move you up the queue. Be wary of anything online promising a shortcut. If everything above checks out, the only option is to wait for Apple’s notification.
Which iPhones get Siri AI?
You need an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16 or 17 model, or the iPhone Air, running iOS 27. The iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and older can install iOS 27 but don’t get Siri AI. It’s also coming to M1 or later iPads and Macs, the iPad mini with A17 Pro, Apple Watch Series 9 and later, and Apple Vision Pro.

Your iPhone language and Siri language must both be set to one of those and must match. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are coming in October, and they’re already in the iOS 27.2 beta.
It works on iPhone in most countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand and South Africa, with two exceptions: the European Union (including Ireland), where it’s only on Mac and Apple Vision Pro for now, and mainland China.
