Yes, ChatGPT Pro 200 is being cut from 20x to 10x. OpenAI has emailed existing $200 Pro subscribers to say that from October 30, 2026, their included usage in ChatGPT Work and Codex drops from 20 times to 10 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance, at the same $200 a month. You keep your current limits until then, and OpenAI is giving existing subscribers 62,500 usage credits (worth $2,500) to soften the change. Here’s what the email says, what changes, and what your options are.

Last checked: October 2, 2026.

What does OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro email say?

The email, sent to Pro subscribers after OpenAI’s DevDay event on September 29, opens: “We’re introducing dots for all Pro customers, a new Pro 500 tier that includes our highest usage limits and Ultrafast, and adjusting the usage allowance included in Pro 200 after October 29th.” The key paragraph reads:

“Starting October 30, 2026, your included usage in ChatGPT Work and Codex will decrease from 20 times to 10 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance. Your GPT-6 Pro limit in Chat will decrease from 200 to 100 messages per week. Your price remains unchanged and you’ll keep your current limits through October 29, 2026.”

OpenAI’s reason is that newer models do more with less: “As our models become more capable and efficient we’re changing how we calculate the usage for Pro 200.” The email also says OpenAI is “committing to not reintroducing the 5hr limit so that you can fully use your weekly usage when you want.” Its help centre says only affected users get the email.

In plain terms, heavy Codex and ChatGPT Work users get half the included usage for the same price. Pro plans are measured weekly; OpenAI’s Codex pricing page says Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit.

Who keeps the old 20x allowance until October 29?

OpenAI calls this grandfathering. According to its help page on Pro tiers, you qualify if you had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10am Pacific Time on September 29, 2026. Eligible subscribers keep the previous allowance through October 29 while the subscription stays active, then move to the lower one.

  • If you cancel and resubscribe: you still qualify on the same account if you were subscribed in that window.
  • If you joined Pro 200 after 10am PT on September 29: you’re already on the lower allowance.
  • Keeping 20x doesn’t upgrade you: your plan stays Pro 200, without Pro 500’s Ultrafast.

What are the 62,500 credits in Settings > Usage?

As a thank you, OpenAI’s email says existing Pro 200 subscribers get “a one-time grant of 62,500 usage credits (a $2,500 USD value). You’ll see these appear in Settings > Usage. They will expire on December 31, 2026.”

Credits work as a top-up, not as extra plan allowance. OpenAI’s credits help page says your plan’s included usage is used first, and credits are drawn only after you hit your limits. They work across supported features: Codex, ChatGPT Work, and ChatGPT for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. They aren’t API credits, and they don’t unlock Ultrafast on Pro 100 or Pro 200. Anything unused on December 31 is lost.

ChatGPT Pro 100 vs 200 vs 500: which is which now?

Pro 100$1005xNoYes
Pro 200$20010x (20x until October 29 if grandfathered)NoYes
Pro 500$50025xYesYes

Prices in US dollars. Sources: OpenAI’s Pro tiers help page and Pro emails; Pro 100’s 5x is from OpenAI’s April launch of the plan.

Pro is billed monthly only, with no annual option. Prices outside the US are shown in local currency at checkout on the ChatGPT pricing page, and if you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, you manage the plan there. Fast mode uses your allowance at 2.5 times the normal rate, and Astra Ultrafast at 8 times.

What is the “ChatGPT Pro 10x promo” people are searching for?

Two different things get mixed up here. When OpenAI launched the $100 Pro plan in April, it gave Pro 100 subscribers “up to 10x usage of ChatGPT Plus on Codex” for a limited time through May 31. That offer has ended, and Pro 100 is back to 5x. The other “10x” is the new standard Pro 200 allowance from October 30.

People also search for the “ChatGPT Pro 200 dollar tier paused”. Pro 200 had been closed to new subscribers, and OpenAI reopened it on September 29, but new sign-ups get the lower allowance, which OpenAI’s help page puts down to “our increasingly efficient models”.

How do I check my ChatGPT Pro usage and when it resets?

  • ChatGPT: open Settings > Usage to see your balance, including the 62,500 credits.
  • Codex: open the Codex usage dashboard, or type /status in the Codex CLI during a session.
  • Hit a limit: a model can be unavailable until its allowance resets, and ChatGPT shows the reset time when it has one. You can switch to another model in the meantime.

OpenAI says support “cannot reset ChatGPT or Codex limits”, and that similar tasks can use different amounts of allowance depending on the model, context, reasoning, tools and speed mode.

Do ChatGPT dots count towards your Pro usage?

Not directly, for now. OpenAI’s email says: “Conversations with your dot and work it does directly are included and don’t draw on your ChatGPT usage allowance.” Its help page on dots adds that your plan “includes an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch”, and that you’ll later be able to pay to scale a dot’s speed or monthly workload. OpenAI hasn’t published what the limits are after the first month. Dots on Pro aren’t available in the EU, the rest of the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the UK yet; our dots UK and Europe guide tracks that.

What should Pro 200 subscribers do before October 29?

  1. Check how much you actually use. Look at your weekly usage in Settings > Usage and the Codex dashboard. If you rarely pass half your allowance, 10x may be enough.
  2. Use your old limits while you have them. Big Codex jobs are cheapest before October 30.
  3. Plan to spend the 62,500 credits by December 31. They kick in after your included usage runs out.
  4. Compare plans. If you never hit limits, Pro 100 at 5x saves $100 a month. If you hit them often, Pro 500 at 25x is the step up, with Ultrafast.
  5. Don’t cancel just to resubscribe. It won’t restore 20x after October 29.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT Pro 200 going from 20x to 10x?

Yes. OpenAI’s email to Pro 200 subscribers says that starting October 30, 2026, included usage in ChatGPT Work and Codex “will decrease from 20 times to 10 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance”. The price stays at $200 a month.

When does the ChatGPT Pro change happen?

Existing Pro 200 subscribers keep their current limits through October 29, 2026. The lower allowance starts on October 30, 2026.

What is the ChatGPT Pro 10x promo?

Two different things get called that. In April, OpenAI gave the new $100 Pro plan up to 10x Plus usage in Codex as a launch offer that ended on May 31. Since September 29, 10x is the new standard allowance for the $200 Pro plan.

What are the 62,500 credits OpenAI gave Pro users?

A one-time grant OpenAI is giving existing Pro 200 subscribers, worth $2,500. They appear in Settings > Usage, are used after your included allowance runs out, and expire on December 31, 2026.

Was the ChatGPT Pro 200 dollar tier paused?

It was closed to new subscribers for a time. OpenAI reopened Pro 200 for new subscriptions on September 29, 2026, but new subscribers get the lower allowance.

Should I switch from Pro 200 to Pro 100?

If you rarely hit your limits, possibly. Pro 100 gives 5x Plus usage against Pro 200’s new 10x, and both include dots. If you regularly run out on Pro 200 today, the cut will hit you, and Pro 500 (25x) is the bigger option.

How do I check my ChatGPT Pro usage?

In ChatGPT, open Settings > Usage. For Codex, open the usage dashboard at chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage, or type /status in the Codex CLI. ChatGPT also shows the reset time when a model hits its limit.

Can OpenAI support reset my ChatGPT Pro usage limit?

No. OpenAI’s help centre says support cannot reset ChatGPT or Codex limits, though it can investigate if usage was counted wrongly.

Does using dots count against my Pro usage?

OpenAI’s email says conversations with your dot and work it does directly “don’t draw on your ChatGPT usage allowance”. Its help centre says the plan includes an allowance for deeper dot work, with extended limits for the first month.
